Our Mission
Since 1950, Reid and Riege, P.C. has cultivated relationships with clients, many of which remain still today. Headquartered in Hartford, CT, with additional offices conveniently located around the state, Reid and Riege attorneys are easily accessible to clients. We focus on the quality of the services we provide, the results we achieve for clients, our adherence to sound legal and business ethics, and the contributions we make to our community.
Responsiveness
We take the time to understand the nuts and bolts of each client's needs so we can provide effective representation and advocacy. Although we pay close attention to detail, we don't "over-lawyer" our clients' issues, or hand them over to inexperienced attorneys. Our collaborative approach enables us to bring together a team from a variety of practice areas to provide sophisticated counsel, on a timely and cost-effective basis.
Leadership
Reid and Riege has been at the forefront of business legal development in many fields, ranging from interstate tax issues to flexible benefit and early retirement programs to creating new mechanisms for the organization and delivery of health care services.
Community
Reid and Riege's founders felt a strong community commitment, which lives on today in the firm. Shortly after its founding, the firm established and funded the Reid and Riege Foundation, which makes grants each year to local organizations and matches charitable gifts made by attorneys in the firm. Our attorneys have always been active in community organizations, serving on the boards of nonprofit, arts, health and other agencies as directors and trustees. Jack Riege helped organize Riverfront Recapture, Inc., an organization that re-established Hartford's connection with the Connecticut River. Pedestrian access to the river from the Hartford business district, construction of a new boathouse, and cultural events on the waterfront have brought the Connecticut River back into the hub of city activity. Jack spearheaded this successful effort and served as its President for many years.
Reid and Riege has a reputation as being leaders in the community, always encouraging our attorneys to participate in civic, nonprofit, political and bar-related organizations and activities. A sampling of the agencies we currently serve as volunteers includes: the Connecticut Business and Industry Association (CBIA), the Hartford Arts Council, YMCAs across the state, Riverfront Recapture, the Connecticut Bar Foundation, the Conference of Commissioners on Uniform State Law, and various religious and political organizations in New England.
Firm History
In 1950, doors of Reid and Riege were opened at One Lewis Street in Hartford. In forming the firm, John Reid and Jack Riege limited their practice to tax and business planning, estate planning and settlement, and retirement planning. Gradually, the firm expanded into corporate work and developed experience with trusteed retirement plans. The firm's Taft-Hartley pension practice quickly grew to be one of the largest in New England.
In the late 1960s, members of the firm were instrumental in drafting the Connecticut Professional Corporation Act, which permitted doctors, attorneys and other professionals to incorporate. The firm also obtained one of the first Revenue Rulings in which the Internal Revenue Service recognized the right of professional corporations to establish qualified pension plans for their employees. When it incorporated on January 4, 1971, Reid and Riege was one of the first professional corporations to be formed in Connecticut.
By the 1970s, as Reid and Riege clients grew, they needed a wider range of legal services. During the 1970s and 1980s, the firm expanded into the areas of litigation, commercial financing, real estate, leasing, creditors' rights and public and private finance, health care bankruptcy and securities. Today, Reid and Riege P.C. offers a full array of legal services.
